The Specialized Airnet MIPS Road Cycling Helmet is the latest version of the Specialized Airnet. It now includes the MIPS system which sits inside the helmet provides protection against rotational violence caused by angled impacts. Traditionally cycling helmets have been designed for head on collisions. MIPS deals with side impacts by allowing the helmet to move slightly, absorbing some of the impact and reducing the shock to your brain. Where most modern helmets are designed in wind tunnels the Airnet was designed to look good as well. Loosely based upon the leather hairnets that cyclists used to wear before modern helmets came along the Airnet takes a clean and simple classic style an incorporated it into a helmet packed with modern tech. Although the Airnet shape was designed around the classic hairnet shape Specialized tweaked it to make a classic style that wasn't only aesthetically pleasing, but also helped in the aero department. The result is that the Airnet is their third fastest helmet, behind the TT and Evade. The Airnet with MIPS also features the ultra-light Mindset HairPort micro-dial fit system making the perfect fit easily achievable and drirelease Merino wool pads to provide increased comfort, odour control, and sweat management.
