The all-new FlatTop design not only enables SRAM to create a stronger, more durable that is quieter, it also allows them to make the chain narrower, enabling them to use their new X-Range technology on the XG-1290 cassette. The result is a quieter, more durable drivetrain with a bigger gear range. Existing technologies such as SRAM's Hard Chrome plating process and HollowPin construction were utilised and further improved; the result is possibly the most radical chain ever produced and one that takes performance to the next level.
